Insomniac Games Marvel's Wolverine Marvel's Wolverine Linear Action Game News PS5

Marvel’s Wolverine Is Not An Open-World Game Like Spider-Man, But A Linear Single-Player Action Game

Mike Daly, Game Director on Marvel’s Wolverine, has clarified during a chat with IGN that Insomniac Games‘ highly anticipated title is not an open-world offering like its Spider-Man games, but more of a classic liner action game.

“I can say we did not set out to make an open world game or a sandbox game. What we really wanted was high octane, high intrigue, linear single player adventure, and the missions reflect that in their structure,” he said. Daly went on to describe Marvel’s Wolverine as a “globe-trotting” outing with pacing that resembles a comic book, with players in for a “rollercoaster” that “grips you from beginning to end.”

Elsewhere, the game director spoke about how Wolverine will have multiple ways to approach combat situations, with stealth being entirely optional if you fancy going in claws blazing.

The areas have different paths you could take. Stealth is optional; you could do it or you could not do it, you could jump straight into combat. And you can poke your nose around the nooks and crannies of the world to find things here and there, and some optional content and collectibles along the way.

In related news, the game’s creative director, Marcus Smith, told Eurogamer that despite the inclusion of Jean Gray in Marvel’s Wolverine, the X-Men as we know them don’t actually exist in the game.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches for PS5 on September 15.
