Electronic Arts’ Blake Jorgensen has revealed that Mass Effect Andromeda may ship during the the first quarter of the publishing giant’s FY18 at the latest.
Mass Effect Andromeda release date still to be decided as game isn’t finished
Speaking at the UBS Global Technology Conference this week, Jorgensen said that EA isn’t yet sure when exactly the hotly anticipated sci-fi RPG will be released, but noted it could be anywhere between the end of FY17 to the beginning of FY18. Given that their financial year concludes on March 31, 2017, we’re looking at March – April of next year for a release window.
This ties in with what the company has said previously, having pinned a spring 2017 launch on Mass Effect Andromeda. However, the game’s release date was labelled as March 21, 2017 on the game’s accompanying art book by Dark Horse. This has yet to be confirmed, so nothing is for sure yet.
In the meantime, developer BioWare has released a new trailer for the game showcasing some cinematic moments from the title, and has confirmed that the first proper Mass Effect Andromeda gameplay will drop during the Game Awards early next month.
Unsurprisingly, Jorgensen expects Andromeda to continue to sell well for a few years after its initial launch.
“Mass Effect is a great brand, and this is one that’s loved by many people, it’s a combination of sci-fi and action, and this is probably one of the greatest Mass Effect I’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s just a spectacular product.”
“I think it’ll sell well both this year and next year, we haven’t yet stated an exact ship date, but it will most likely ship near the end of the year or possibly early next year, we don’t know yet, but it’ll depend on when the product is fully finished. At the end of the day it’s a product that will sell well, for the next one to three years. We continue to sell Mass Effect in our catalog, and that’s important for our business long-term.”
Earlier this week, BioWare confirmed details on a new, antagonistic race to feature in Andromeda, known as the Kett. The Mass Effect Andromeda Collector’s Edition will feature a remote control Nomad, so be sure to give it a look here.
