Media Molecule Has Confirmed Layoffs Have Hit The Studio

Dreams developer Media Molecule has confirmed yesterday’s reports that a number of staff have been laid off at the company as it shifts focus to its new project.

The developer posted on Twitter to confirm the layoffs:

Media Molecule has made significant strategic changes during the past year, including shifting our focus from Dreams to our new project. We have had to make the difficult decision to begin the consultation process for team members within certain departments of the studio. This is a tough moment for the individuals impacted and the studio overall.

Every single role that has been put at risk is delivered by someone who has contributed something special to Media Molecule. We will make sure those impacted receive the best support we can provide during this process. We will continue to support the Dreams Community for the forseeable future and will update on future plans at a later date.

Media Molecule announced earlier this year that it would be ending support for Dreams as it focuses its resources on a new project, although players can still create and share their work. Furthermore, studio co-founder Mark Healey departed back in April, and the following month it was announced that John Beech had been crowned Media Molecule’s new creative director.
