The series producer on Metal Gear Solid has revealed that one of the reasons Konami is working on Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater is because they were starting to worry a whole new generation of gamers are unfamiliar with the long-running franchise.
While Metal Gear Solid is one of the most iconic video game series on the market, the franchise has been on hiatus since 2018’s Metal Gear Survive, which is non-canon anyway. If we’re talking about the last major game, then we’re going back nine whole years to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. As such, it’s probably not a surprise that the younger generation wouldn’t really be familiar with the franchise.

It’s this reason, Noriaki Okamura tells the final issue of PLAY Magazine, that Konami went ahead with its remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
One of the things that really sparked us to do the remake in general is because we realised that a lot of the newer, younger generation of gamers aren’t familiar with the Metal Gear series anymore. It was basically our mission, our duty, to kind of continue making sure that the series lives on for future generations. After all, we leave behind much more than just DNA, as Solid Snake would say—but again, who is Solid Snake?
Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater is in development for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date yet to be announced.
