Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Survive will require a constant Internet connection to play it.

The news emerged following last week’s Metal Gear Survive release date confirmation, although it wasn’t widely circulated. Rather, Konami included a small mention of it on the game’s official website, as spotted by a member on NeoGAF.
Of course, you’ll also need a subscription to PlayStation Plus or Xbox LIVE Gold to play the game in the first place.
Presumably this is something many of you already have, but the news that Survive requires a constant Internet connection is unlikely to please anyone.
Metal Gear Survive is due for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in early 2018. The game is the first entry in the venerable stealth-based franchise to see a release following the departure of series creator, Hideo Kojima.
The game takes place in an alternate timeline, which sees members of Big Boss’s military force sucked into a wormhole following the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.
Now trapped in a strange dimension, the group has to defend themselves against marauding, zombie-like beings known as ‘creatures’ while scavenging materials and essential supplies to establish a base and survive.
Resource management and crafting will be paramount to your survival in the game, with Survive also tapping into the franchise’s strong pedigree for stealth and survival mechanics following the success of The Phantom Pain. Players can also partake in animal rearing and growing crops to further their efforts.
While on the subject of Metal Gear, it’s worth noting that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is still available as part of the free PlayStation Plus games for October 2017.
