Metal Max: Wild West, the sequel to Metal Max Xeno: Reborn, has been cancelled, developer Kadokawa Games has announced.
The game was in development for PS5 and Nintendo Switch and had planned to launch this year in Japan, having been pushed back for a planned 2021 release.
Not many details are known about the game’s cancellation, but a statement from the company said it was shelved after considering the game’s current development status as well as other factors.

Metal Max Wild West would have featured a new protagonist, with the base town in the game gradually expanding through the player’s efforts. In addition, the game world would have seen settlements featuring new species of monsters to battle, while the Unigun enemy from Metal Max 2 was also set to make a comeback.
