Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios, has revealed during an interview with GamesRadar that Microsoft is looking to be “more consistent” in regards to its release scheduled for PS5 versions of its flagship titles.
Microsoft has been releasing a number of its format Xbox-exclusives for Sony and Nintendo formats since last year, marking a huge change in strategy for the Xbox manufacturer. We’ve already seen the likes of Sea of Thieves, Gears of War, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle come to PS5, and that looks set to continue this year with the likes of Fable and Halo: Campaign Evolved.
However, not all of these games share the same release schedule. For example, Fable is launching day-and-date with its PC and Xbox counterparts, while Forza Horizon 6 is arriving for PS5 at a later date. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle also came out for Sony’s format about four months after PC and Xbox.
There’s always development realities about when these projects start – how big a team is, and what plans we have at the start of development. Like you said, when a strategy changes, maybe you’ve got a plan that exists with a game and maybe you can adopt that, maybe you can’t. So that’s why.
And to be clear, this is totally fair feedback. Sometimes we are inconsistent. You see some games in one place, some games in multiple places. Just know that we’re going to work on that, and we’re going to try and be more consistent with what we do.
But you know, for our game makers, if you’re on the Fable team, you just want as many people who love Fable to appreciate the great work that the team’s doing. That’s always our goal. It’s rarely more complicated than that. It’s like, how can we get this game to as many players as we can?
Microsoft announced last week that Fable is launching in Fall 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with Forza Horizon 6 arriving in May; a release date for the PS5 version has yet to be announced. Halo: Campaign Evolved has also yet to attract a launch date but is due out later this year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox title.
