Microsoft Exec Says Xbox Maker Has A ‘Chance Of Being A Good Publisher On Sony, Nintendo’

Speaking during an interview with Bloomberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spoke about the Xbox format holder’s plans to publish games on other formats in wake of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, among which includes bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms.

The deal brings a number of major franchises under the Microsoft umbrella, and looking ahead, Nadella made it clear Microsoft aims to become a prolific publisher in its own right, both for Xbox and other consoles.

We love gaming. In fact, Flight Simulator was created before even Windows. But we were number three, number four, and with now Activision, I think we have a chance of being a good publisher, quite frankly, on Sony and on Nintendo, and on PCs and on Xbox.

Microsoft had previously made a number of comments regarding embracing rival formats. Back in November 2023, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that “we need to think of the many Nintendo Switch and PlayStation users as part of the Xbox community in the future.”

Meanwhile, Tim Stuart, Microsoft’s CFO, revealed at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit later that same month that “our mission is to bring our first-party experiences, our subscription services to every screen that can play a game,” which includes PlayStation and Nintendo devices.
