Mortal Kombat 1 Has Sold “Nearly” 3 Million Copies Since Launch

Mortal Kombat 1 has sold “nearly” 3 million copies worldwide since its launch this past September, according to David Zaslav, president and chief executive officer for Warner Bros.

Zaslav announced the new number during an earnings call for the company’s third quarter for its 2023 fiscal year. When talking about what Zaslav called “key franchises” in which it is leading, it listed among others Mortal Kombat.

“Mortal Kombat, whose most recent release, Mortal Kombat 1 has sold nearly 3 million copies since its launch in mid-September.”

Almost 3 million in across a month and a half is not a bad pace, especially when considering that this year’s Fall release schedule is the most packed the video game industry has seen in a long time.

It also helps that this year’s release is considered one of the strongest in the series, which changes that really shake up the fighting meta of the game, largely due to the new Kameo system introduced in MK1.
