Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion Brings New Story Content, Characters And More

Mortal Kombat 1’s first major expansion has been revealed by NetherRealm, and it’ll continue the game’s story while also introducing new characters and the return of the fan-favourite finishing moves, Animality.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns arrives on September 24, 2024 and picks up after the end of the game’s main campaign and introduces a new threat from an alternate timeline, as the Titan Havik attempts to burn everything to the ground and bring the world into chaos.

Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor are three of the new characters that’ll be added to the roster, each of them entering Mortal Kombat 1 at this point through this all-new story campaign in Khaos Reigns.

As far as who the new characters are from other franchises, we see the return of Ghostface from the Scream franchise of films, Conan the Barbarian and Terminator 2: Judgement Day’s iconic T-1000. Warner Bros. also confirms that the T-1000’s original actor, Robert Patrick, will be returning to voice the killing machine.

The new characters and the story content in Khaos Reigns will all be arriving in a paid expansion, which you can go pre-order for $49.99 USD but the new animalities thankfully are not locked behind that paywall.

Those will arrive for free for all players when Khaos Reigns goes live this coming September. So even if you can’t hop online and rip players to shreds as Ghostface, you’ll still be able to transform into a preying mantis and bite the heads off players who do purchase the DLC.

A trailer showing off new gameplay of Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor while also showcasing a bit of the narrative of Khaos Reigns can be seen here.

“With Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, we’re looking forward to an exciting second year of content that will continue the cinematic story, add more fighters, and bring back popular game features,” said franchise creator Ed Boon in a press release.

“The expansion marks the long-awaited return of Animalities, which will be a free content update for all Mortal Kombat 1 players and a token of appreciation for our amazing community.”
