NetherRealm Studios‘ Ed Boon has revealed during an interview with CCXP that Mortal Kombat 1 will receive new story-based DLC similar to what the developer produced for MK11’s Aftermath expansion.
Not only that, but Boon teased that NetherRealm has a ‘big surprise’ coming after, although understandably didn’t go into any further details. Whether this means more MK1 content or something new entirely isn’t known at this point.
Just like we did with Mortal Kombat 11 we’re going to release a second part with more story, and we have a big surprise after that. So, we’re going to be supporting the game for even longer than we did with Mortal Kombat 11, so it’s gonna be fun.
Mortal Kombat 1 was released for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S in September 2023. You can read our full review here. As with the previous few games, Mortal Kombat 1 includes a number of post-launch fighters including guest characters Omni-Man and Homelander, and team also briefly considered adding The Walking Dead’s Michonne.
