Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Dev Wants To Do A Sega Saturn Fighting Game Collection

Digital Eclipse, the studio that’s bringing us the retro-tactic Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, has revealed during an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that it would like to try its hand at a Sega Saturn Fighting Game Collection, featuring 90s classics such as Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter.

When asked what passion project he’d like to work on if given the chance, Stephen Frost, Head of Production at Digital Eclipse, revealed he’d love to tackle some classic fighting games from Sega’s 32-bit console.

The other idea, because I’m a fighting game fan, would be to do a Sega Saturn-based fighting game collection. So all the fighting games from the Sega Saturn: the Virtua Fighters, Fighting Vipers, all that stuff in a collection. I think that would be really popular.

Frost also said he’d like to have a stab at another collection curating some of the more obscure mascot characters from the 16-bit era, including Cool Spot, Avoid the Noid and Pepsin. “I think it would be a fun journey to go on,” he said.

Of course, this isn’t to say that any such collection will happen; it’s simply a ‘dream collection’ of sorts that Frost would like to work on. Still, with the amount of classic 90s revivals we’re getting nowadays – Croc: Legend of the Gobbos and Gex Trilogy are prime examples – anything is possible.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is slated for release at some point in 2025 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
