Mysterious Sony project mentioned in LinkedIn profile, let the speculation begin!

With Grand Theft Auto V and Guild Wars 2 for PS3 already coming to Germany’s annual videogame trade show, it might surprise you to hear that the biggest surprise of Gamescom 2012 for the PlayStation Nation could be something else entirely.

The LinkedIn profile of Gerald Bauser, a 13-year-veteran project manager for E3 and Gamescom, lists several key titles that he is supervising for inclusion in this year’s Gamescom. Among the games listed are Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Assassin’s Creed 3, and the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto V and PS3 version of Guild Wars 2. The most enigmatic entry comes at list’s end. The following item is listed, in the Publisher-Title format used for all other games.

"Sony Computer intertainment® – Not (in progress)"

There are a few noteworthy things here. First off, the notable typo of "intertainment" versus "Entertainment". This can be excused; it’s far from the first grammatical error in Bauser’s resume. Then there’s the project title: "Not (in progress)". In keeping with the standard set by other entries in Bauser’s list, "in progress" might refer to the amount of time he has personally spent supervising the game’s presence at the show. Other titles are given parenthetical citations of "in progress", as well as "2 months", "5 months", and "ongoing".

What about "Not"? It’s certainly *not* a compelling game title, so my bet is that it’s a placeholder name. So, what is Sony’s big Gamescom surprise? Could it be yet another PS3 exclusive? Perhaps the presence of Sony’s next-generation home console? We won’t know until August 15, but color us excited in the meantime.

We want to hear your speculation. Let us know in the comments what you think Sony has up its sleeve for Gamescom 2012, and stay tuned to PSU for more coverage in the weeks leading up to it.
