Naoki Hamaguchi Can’t Say What’s Coming After Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, Be It A ‘New IP’ Or ‘Something New Within The FF Series’

The director behind the Final Fantasy VII Remake project at Square Enix has revealed that he can’t say what’s coming after Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, but flirted with various opportunities that could arise, including a new IP or something within the venerable RPG series.

Speaking with GamesRadar+, Naoki Hamaguchi made it clear that the team intends to move onto something else after Part 3, but right now there’s nothing set in stone as to what its next project could be. From the sound of things though, there’s plenty of opportunities available — even a new IP if it take their fancy.

I think once we have got out the third game in the series, and hopefully it’s a big success, we’ll definitely move on to something else, and it’d be great to see what that team that we’ve managed to build up together produces. I don’t know if it’s the right way of talking about it, but the bonds, the relationship between the team has definitely improved a lot and strengthened that team.

I can’t say at this point what that’s going to be, whether it’s going to be a completely new game, completely new IP, whether it’s gonna be something new within the Final Fantasy series, but I’m really looking forward to it. I think fans who’ve seen what our work has been on the Remake series, the three games, will really look forward to this exciting, new gameplay experience. What we work on after that, I’m very much looking forward to working on that myself as well.

As previously reported, Hamaguchi told a panel at MCM London Comic Con that development of part three of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is ‘going well,’ and while he acknowledged that fans are eagerly awaiting a release date, he wasn’t able to provide one just yet. However, it is generally believed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is targeting a 2027 release window giving the time frame between parts 1 & 2.
