Reading between the lines of SEGA’s latest press release, it appears that its squad-based first person shooter, Aliens: Colonial Marines, may face further delay as the team gets down to work on a new game based on the Aliens franchise, Aliens vs. Predator.
“It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming’s most cherished iconic titles," says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi. "By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans.”
The new game is in development by Rebellion Studios, who has a long history with the Aliens franchise. The studio was the original developer of Aliens vs. Predator on the Atari Jaguar in 1995, and then released another version of the game on PC. It also created the Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem PSP game in 2007.
With the announcement earlier this week that there will be a reduction in workforce across SEGA’s research and development sectors, the company has to make some shrewd decisions in 2009. However, we rest assured that Aliens: Colonial Marines will still see the light of day.
Back to today’s announcement of Aliens vs. Predator, there haven’t been any details released on the game thus far, and SEGA has yet to confirm which platforms Aliens vs. Predator will be released on.
