UPDATE 09/12/2024: Shortly after publishing, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford confirmed a few key points about the coming trailer.
The trailer will feature gameplay, along with “a lot of in-game footage,” according to Pitchford, and it’ll showcase a “never-before-seen original cinematic sequence depicting a moment that occurs about half way between the end of Borderlands 3 and the beginning of Borderlands 4.”
So that answers a couple of questions, but leaves potential for a release date surprise alive.
Original Story:
Gearbox has just confirmed that a new trailer for Borderlands 4 will premiere later this week at The Game Awards 2024.
After a teaser trailer was revealed earlier this year at Gamescom ONL 2024, it looks like 2K and Gearbox got the Geoff Keighley–special where they’ve secured spots in two of the major shows Keighley hosts and organizes.
The first teaser trailer was just a short cinematic, closing out with a shot of the classic Psycho Bandit mask worn by many of the fodder you cut through in the Borderlands series.
Hopefully this time we get more than that, maybe even a quick look at some gameplay but don’t expect more than that, since there’s likely a designated “gameplay trailer” set to arrive closer to the game’s actual release date.
Speaking of release dates, if you really want to shoot your hopes at the moon, this trailer might just be the one that gives us a release date, especially since the game is currently set for 2025.
And let’s not forget that Gearbox’s new parent company Take-Two has previously stated that Borderlands 4 won’t launch anywhere near the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, to avoid the former being overshadowed by the latter.
So if GTA VI is still set to arrive by Fall 2025, then we’re probably looking at a Spring 2025 release for Borderlands 4, but that’s just speculation.
Hopefully we’ll know a lot more after The Game Awards, and if we don’t, at least Borderlands fans will have more than a teaser trailer to go off.
