Dark Souls 3 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in North America and Europe on April 12. The game follows closely in the footsteps of its predecessor, utilising the series award-winning combination of sorcery and brutal combat as gamers explore a variety of locations fighting off increasingly tough foes.
Developer From Software has implemented a couple of new additions this time around, including the ‘Ready Stance’ to spice up combat, as well as the introduction of gravestones. Hidetaka Miyazaki returns to direct Dark Souls 3 having served as supervisor on Dark Souls 2, though he also kept himself busy working on the PS4-exclusive dungeon crawler, Bloodborne.
The ‘Souls’ series first started off on PS3 in 2009 with Demon’s Souls and has sold over eight million copies worldwide. While the series initially started out as something of a cult hit, the franchise found mainstream appeal with Dark Souls II, which alone has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.
Despite the franchise’s success however, Miyazaki-san has indicated that there is unlikely to be another Bloodborne or Dark Souls game, as he’s keen to move on to other challenges.
