New Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim details unveiled

A fresh batch of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim information has trickled on to the web via the pages of Official PlayStation Magazine (courtesy of NeoGAF).

For starters, the publication reveals that injured Dragons won’t be able to take flight, and players will be able to scrap with them on the ground.

Also mentioned are a collection of new Dragon Shouts, namely Yol Toor, Fire Breaht, Iiz Slen, Ice Crystals, Strun Bah Qo, Lightning Storm, Slow Time and Whirlwind Spirit, the latter of which lets you move quickly in any given direction.

Elsewhere, the preview gives us the skinny on the various weapon combinations you can expect, as well as confirming that torches can be utilized as a weapon this time around.

    * Weapon and weapon
    * Weapon and shield
    * Weapon and torch
    * Spell and weapon
    * Spell and spell
    * Two-handed weapon

Developer Bethesda also reveals that the Radiant Story-powered random quests are inspired by those found in post-apocalyptic outing Fallout 3. Apparently, the team implemented mechanic as they disliked how “fake” some of the quests in Skyrim’s predecessor felt.

Elsewhere, the fantasy-RPG will also boast 13 different types of ore for crafting purposes. Perhaps most interesting, however, is the fact Hand to Hand combat has been completely elbowed out of the equation.

The article also highlights three factions in addition to the familiar Dark Brotherhood quest line. Furthermore, the stories in these factions will be interwoven with one another, as well as the main quest. The factions mentioned are as follows:

    * The Thieves Guild
    * The College of Winter Hold (for Mages)
    * The Companions (for Warriors)

Every city in Skyrim boasts a unique economy that can be freely sabotaged by the player. Guards will still have a presence in the game, though they won’t be as tough as they were in Oblivion. Furthermore, any bounty you incur will only be applicable to a specific region; for example, kill someone in Hold A, and the guards won’t arrest you in Hold B.

Fortunately, the game will feature far more voice actors than its predecessor, with over 60,000 lines of dialogue having been recorded for Skyrim. Multiple travel options will be available to you, including horses and both Morrowind and Oblivion’s fast-travel options.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
