New Far Cry Primal gameplay hunted down on PS4

It’s a matter of weeks until the prehistoric hunt of Far Cry Primal will begin, arguably one of the year’s first big titles. So the game’s development team have kindly decided to show off some fresh gameplay, as well as divulging more details about it in a two hour stream ahead of launch. Suprisingly, it doesn’t look half-bad.

There’s no denying it’s still very much Far Cry at heart, even parts of the UI are identical to Far Cry 4, but there are some decent visual improvements to be found in the footage, mainly in the detailed foliage swaying in the breeze. It’d be almost calming if not for all the creatures trying to eat you and rival tribes attempting to gut you with sticks. Also, we get to see more of animal taming, flying as a bird, and a bit of mammoth hunting.

Could it be this isn’t the rush job we feared it might be? The issue of open-world fatigue is probably Primal’s biggest hurdle to overcome, but for now it does at least look like it might be quite fun, if not quite the sea-change to the Far Cry formula it could’ve been.

You can go native with Far Cry Primal on February 23. Meanwhile, read what PSU’s Will Robinson had to say about it at the preview stage here.
