Final Fantasy XV is scheduled for release in 2016, though an exact date has yet to be confirmed. The game was announced during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference, although prior to that, it was known as the PS3-exclusive title, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which was announced back in May 2006. Prior to its name change and shift to new platforms, FF Versus XIII had remained a solid case of gaming vaporware, as Square Enix had released little information on the project up to that point, leading many to believe it had been canceled.
Now that the game is back on track under a new title, new information has been quite forthcoming on FFXV, with its developer confirming that various elements that were featured in its previous incarnation have been changed or scrapped outright. Development on FFXV started three years ago, at which point FF Versus XIII was only around 25 percent complete; as it turns out, production on Versus XIII didn’t really begin until a few years after its unveiling. A demo of FFXV was included with the high-definition remaster of Final Fantasy Type-0 on PS4 and Xbox One earlier this year.
