The upcoming Need for Speed reboot from Electronic Arts’ studio Ghost Games will require an online connection.
Responding to a tweet, the official Need for Speed Twitter account confirmed the online requirement and explained it would bring additional “variety and a more rewarding experience with friends.”
@DeanRheims NFS will require an online connection, but the benefits are nice. More variety and a more rewarding experience with friends.

When another user pleaded to allow offline play, the Need for Speed account did not deny or confirm the ability to play disconnected from the internet but reassured that the open-world racer “will have fully dedicated servers and great improvements to the AllDrive system.”
“Being connected will allow your friends to be part of your narrative experience, something only possible through connected play,” said another reply tweet.
The NFS Twitter also confirmed the game contains both single and multiplayer.
The next Need for Speed is described as a reboot of the franchise, despite sharing the same vibe and visual style as the NFS Underground series, and is set to release this fall (with a leaked November 5 launch) for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
