There’s a flaky rumour going around that Sony plans to launch a redesigned PlayStation Vita model in September.
Japanese University newspaper Tokyo Keizai,via NeoGaf, claims that the new design which sports the model number PCH-2000, will have a 6.3in OLED screen (960×554 pixels) and 1GB RAM. It seems pointless at this stage to release a Vita with a larger screen when the current one is good enough, though the increase of RAM from 513MB to 1GB would improve multi-tasking.
What Sony should actually do to improve Vita’s appeal is concentrate on creating decent first-party titles. A poll conducted by PlayStation Universe earlier today cited games as the major issue that Vita faces at this current time.
Hopefully that will be the case and this current rumour disappears into the ether. With Sony’s press conference kicking off tomorrow, and streamed live on PSU.com, we can expect more details on Vita and the company’s plans for the PlayStation 4 which is due for release later this year.
