Rockstar has released a new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer, fueling speculation that the upcoming Wild West action-adventure game will be a prequel to the 2010 original.
The video contained in-engine footage of the highly anticipated open-world title, and features a character known as Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van de Linde gang of outlaws who appears to be on a debt collecting spree.
“You’re a wanted man, Mr. Morgan,” a voice is heard during the trailer, suggesting you are a little more unscrupulous than John Marston and not always on the right side of the law.
However, right now there’s no confirmation if Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature multiple characters, or if you’ll just be stepping into Morgan’s boots for the entirety of the adventure. At one point, we see the protagonist wielding a bow and arrow and dual pistols, so he’s obviously well armed.
One interesting tidbit however is that the character of Dutch is mentioned at the end of the trailer, providing connectivity between both RDR2 and its predecessor. It’s also speculated that a young Marston could make a cameo appearance at some point, or even have a large role in the proceedings.

Red Dead Redemption 2 release date narrowed down
Rockstar also used the climax of the trailer to confirm a spring 2018 launch window for the upcoming cowboy-themed adventure game, narrowing down the previous 2018 window the company revealed earlier in the year.
The game was originally due to ship in late 2017, but was pushed back to afford additional development time. More recent reports suggest that the delay is down to Rockstar pushing Sony for cross-platform play.
We previously speculated that a Red Dead Redemption 2 beta could be in the pipeline, seeing as how the title will support a comprehensive online world similar to that of Grand Theft Auto 5. Invites were sent out a few weeks back that turned out to be complete fabrication.
