New Sonic Mania gameplay features classic Sonic 2 stage remade

SEGA has rolled out a fresh batch of Sonic Mania gameplay for your viewing pleasure, this time focusing on another classic stage plucked from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Chemical Plant Zone is the latest stage to be overhauled for the Blue Blur’s impending retro-flavored platform game, and has been given a number of new additions and surprises for those who mastered the original back in 1992. Check out the Sonic Mania trailer below to see Tails zip around the stage.

Sonic Mania is due out on August 15, 2017 for PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game features a combination of classic and brand new zones, all woven into one 2D, nostalgia-filled package that harkens back to Sonic’s golden platforming years on the Mega Drive/Genesis.

The game is one of two major Sonic outings released to mark the series’ 25th anniversary, with the other being Sonic Forces. Both titles have a lot of expectation on their shoulders, seeing as how Sonic hasn’t had the easiest ride in the past 15 years or so thanks to a series of poorly-received offerings.
