New Spider-Man PS4 details shed light on characters and story

Developer Insomniac Games has revealed new details on its hotly anticipated Spider-Man title for PlayStation 4.

Speaking during a livestream, the Ratchet & Clank creator confirmed that the superhero title won’t just focus on the web-slinger’s antics, but also provide a more human story revolving around Peter Parker.

Parker will be playable at various points in the game, although the majority of the action will see you controlling his alter-ego.

Elsewhere, Insomniac confirmed that Mary-Jane is also playable at various intervals, and her role in the story sees her working as an investigative journalist.

As such, players will get a comprehensive look at the game’s recreation of New York City through these multiple perspectives.

In addition, the company is also emphasised the importance of Miles Morales in the story, and revealed that it aged Aunt May as it fits better with Parker’s story. Other crucial roles in the game include that of Norman Osbourne, the Mayor of New York City, Kingpin, and Shocker.

Spider-Man release date set

Sony announced during Paris Games Week that Spider-Man will be released in 2018, joining fellow PS4 juggernauts such as God of War and Detroit: Become Human.

The game focuses on a 23-year-old Peter Parker, now an experienced superhero having adopted the role of Spider-Man for the past eight years.

The game’s recreation of the Big Apple offers an open-world for players to explore and navigate using Spidey’s web-based powers, as he battles against a group known as the Inner Demons.

Sony is obviously hoping the game will achieve great success, having previously said that it hopes the title will push sales of its flagship gaming platform over 100 million.

According to Insomniac, the Spider-Man game world is significantly larger than that of the studio’s previous title, Sunset Overdrive.
