Daft party games are making a bit of a comeback in recent years. Titles like Overcooked! and Gang Beasts provide some goofy crowd-pleasing fun, and more of that kind of thing world be superb. Especially when they have local multiplayer. Enter Nippon Marathon, Onion Soup Interactive’s four player runner.
Nippon Marathon’s first trailer drips with so much Japanese game show influence, you half expect Craig Charles to chime in with a sardonic comment about balls.
Nippon Marathon PS4 Edition Coming In 2018
The game just launched on PC in Early Access, but is pencilled in to compete on PS4 this Autumn. It already looks like a hoot. It had an alpha demo last year, which seemed to go down pretty well.
The developer says this about the game on its Steam page,
San! Ni! Ichi! Hajime!!! Stretch your muscles and embark upon the ultimate marathon of Japan in a raucous ragdoll party multiplayer racer where anything can happen. Hurdle barrels, outrun Shiba Inu and dive out of the paths of bicycles – all while chucking fruit at your opponents and dashing across planks precariously balanced over waterfalls – in an unreal experience that must be played to be believed.
Locations include busy city streets, village lanes, bustling markets, mountaintop shrines, supermarkets and even distilleries.
Players can choose from four competitors, who are naturally, a lobster man, a woman in a unicorn onesie, an old man dressed as a schoolgirl, and a dog with a human body.
There’s promise of random events cropping up during the races, and plenty of absurd obstacles to make the ragdoll hilarity all the spicier. There’s also an option to drop in or out of play easily.
It will be interesting to see how the game shapes up in the coming months before its console release. Roll on Autumn! Also, get Craig Charles in for commentary.
