Sony won’t release an Elite DualShock 4 controller for the PlayStation 4 Pro, according to system architect, Mark Cerny.
Speaking during an interview with The Verge, Cerny said that the format holder wants to maintain a ‘unified’ audience, and that manufacturing a new controller variation would ultimately splinter that user base.
“We want to keep PlayStation 4 as a single unified audience,” he said. “We need to be quite careful to the enhancements we add to the controller. But it’s not the sort of thing that’s going to create have’s and have nots.”
This is in direct contrast to Nintendo and Microsoft, who have been releasing variants of their controllers for a number of years now. For example, Microsoft has launched the Xbox One Elite pad, which is a high-end version of the standard controller.
PS4 Pro release date confirmed for November
Sony announced that PS4 Pro will be released on November 10, 2016, priced at $399/£349. The console is an upgraded version of the standard PS4, and includes the ability to play games in 4K resolution with an increased frame rate. In addition, Sony is also patching older games to allow for HDR capabilities, so you’ll be able to play the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last of Us Remastered with improved visuals.

PS4 Pro is not designed to kick start a new console generation, and as such Sony has opted take a different path when upgrading the memory. Nonetheless, the PS4 Pro specs are significantly more powerful than the regular version of Sony’s flagship home console, but are still said to fall short of the Xbox Scorpio’s technical muscle.
