No Man’s Sky comes under fire from ex-Microsoft chap

PlayStation 4’s ambitious No Man’s Sky has caught flak from ex-Microsoft community boss, Raj Patel, who has accused Hello Games’ upcoming adventure as being stale.

Writing on Twitter, while Patel acknowledged the potential of the sprawling opus, he didn’t seem all that convinced from what he has seen on the game so far.

“Every gameplay image I’ve seen of No Man’s Sky looks like it could take place on the same planet. ‘Infinite universe’ eh? I don’t see it,” said Patel. “I mean it has potential and COULD be great but from what I’ve SEEN so far, it already seems stale. I haven’t seen the fun.”

When one follower said that it is impossible for Patel to have seen everything No Man’s Sky has to offer given the very nature of what’s on the table, he countered with: “I’ve seen everything that has been publicly shown. As my tweet indicated I’m commenting on what I’ve seen,” before adding, “maybe there is more to it that we’ll see post-launch.”

No Man’s Sky offers a staggering level of freedom, featuring a procedurally generated open universe ripe for exploration as gamers touch down on unique planets to gather vital info. You can then submit this to The Atlas, a massive database that can be shared with other players to shed light on your exploits.

Aside from uncovering blueprints and other tools to upgrade your ship and allow you to venture even further into deep space. However, you’ll also come up against hostile forces, known as Sentinels, that take exception to your adventuring, forcing you to be vigilant when it comes to draining planets of their natural resources or killing the indigenous wildlife.

Due to the sheer scale of No Man’s Sky, no player will experience everything that the game has to offer in a lifetime, though you are able to share coordinate with other gamers to explore new locations. In short, it’s pretty damn ambitious.

No Man’s Sky is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 and PC in June 2016.
