Digital Foundry has put No Man’s Sky under the knife this week and come up with a few interesting tidbits regarding the game’s performance on PlayStation 4.
Chiefly, the pixel wizards found that the ambitious space exploration title runs at a vibrant 1080p and is capped at 30fps.
Pleasingly, the frame rate more or less keeps chugging along just fine when exploring on foot, but is prone to dipping when flying out in space, particularly when entering the atmosphere of a newly-discovered planet.
Fortunately, this only happens when the game engine is put under extreme pressure. Otherwise, the No Man’s Sky frame rate is pretty solid.
No Man’s Sky available now, first major update is live
Hello Games’ hotly anticipated title is now available in North America and will hit Europe and the U.K. on August 10. Be sure to have a butcher’s at our No Man’s Sky guide to find out how to avoid those pesky Sentinels during your adventuring.
In addition, the first No Man’s Sky update has rolled out, which offers a wealth of tweaks and improvements. See here for full details.
While technically not a single-player game, the fact No Man’s Sky contains such a vast open-world to explore means it is unlikely you’ll ever meet up with another player within game world.
In fact, Hello Games has gone on record to say that around 99.9 percent of No Man’s Sky’s planets are unlikely to be explored by gamers. Considering there is a jaw-dropping 18 quintillion of them, we’re not surprised.
