Official PS4 ‘Gold Wireless Headset’ and PlayStation companion app spotted

Without an official, quality wireless headset for PlayStation 4 at launch, gamers have either had to make do with the flimsy, feature-less ear-piece that was bundled with the new console, or look to other third-party cans like Giotech’s EX-06, or the Turtle Beach range for their audio kicks.

However, Sony is preparing to launch an official new PS3 and PS4 headset that supports 7.1 virtual surround sound and is compatible with PS Vita and other devices. Named the ‘Gold Wireless Headset’ by Best Buy and Play-Asia, the black and blue colour scheme fits in with the PS4 design and the PlayStation button symbols on the headband and the PlayStation logo on the cans gives it the official stamp.

The official blurb claims that the headset “delivers amazing depth and audio clarity, elevating your gaming experience with customizable game modes created by developers exclusively for PlayStation”. There will also be a headset companion app that will have custom modes that are “specifically tuned to enhance the audio in your favorite games.”

Best Buy doesn’t currently have a price or release date listed, but Play-Asia is selling the headset for $129.99.

We’d expect an official announcement about North America and European availability very shortly.
