Capcom has announced that Onimusha Way of the Sword will now arrive on September 4, 2026, which is three weeks earlier than originally planned.
Earlier this week, Onimusha producer Akihito Kadowaki told VGC that Capcom isn’t worried about the fact the game was launching into a crowded month, as September will see a number of high profile releases including Marvel’s Wolverine and Silent Hill: Townfall. “We think our lead character, Musashi, is a key selling point, alongside the satisfaction of the combat itself,” he said.
Set during the Japanese capitol of Kyoto during the Edo period, Onimusha: Way of the Sword follows Miyamoto Musashi (using the face model of legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune), a fierce young samurai looking to prove his skills by moving from one bloody and gritty brawl to the next. A key component here is the One Gauntlet, which grants Musashi power beyond human limits, giving him the strength needed to cut down the blood-thirsty Genma. Killing these creatures allows you to absorb their souls, converting them into a power source to further enhance Musashi’s combat abilities.
Onimusha Way of the Sword is now due out on Sept. 4 on PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
