Pearl Abyss‘ head marketing and strategy planning has revealed during an appearance on the Dropped Frames podcast that Crimson Desert is fully voiced by humans without the application of AI, and features multiple language support to boot.
Here’s what he had to say about voice acting support, although he did note that he was pulling back from stating all NPC are 100% voice acted.
I’ll not talk s*** about other games. All of our voice acting is by humans. I’m pulling back from saying that 100% of all the NPCs are 100 percent voice-acted and everything. I’m categorically making the decision to not say 100% on anything too…if one NPC isn’t voice-acted, then I’m not a liar on the internet. But yes, voice acting for all mainline NPC – like sideline or side quest NPCs.
Like, there is voice acting in the game across multiple languages. Korean, English, Chinese, I think right now…but 13 different text localization…I think more than that. Look at our Steam page. We’re available across a ton of different languages with full localization as well as text localization.
Powers has shared a few details about Crimson Desert during the same interview, notably stating that despite it not being a Soulslike title, it shouldn’t be defined as an ‘easy’ game. In addition, he also revealed that Crimson Desert won’t feature microtransactions.
Crimson Desert’s narrative follows Greymanes Kliff, Oongka, Yann, and Naira, during a period where Pywel is experiencing great tension and conflict among its people. This already fragile period is disrupted further by an attack by the Black Bears, a rival faction to the Greymanes, killing many of its members. In the aftermath, Kliff and the survivors are scattered, and so it’s up to him to reunite with his comrades and rebuild the Greymanes, before confronting the Myurdin, the leader of the Black Bears.
