PSU recently had the opportunity to scope out the grand opening of the pentahotel Ipswich, U.K., to go hands-on with the successful chain’s newly-unveiled, first UK PlayerPad, a hotel room designed specifically with gamers and guests seeking entertainment in mind.
The penta PlayerPad is something that pentahotels have only recently introduced in the U.K., and they’ll be installing more new PlayStation 4-equipped suites throughout its chains across the country and in Europe.
As mentioned, the PS4 is the main attraction here; we asked pentahotel if they were planning on installing Xbox Ones for example, but they replied emphatically that PS4 is the only console on offer. Not that we’re complaining, mind.
pentahotels represents a complete new generation of hotels, with a young, unconventional and relaxed approach. The lobby is called pentalounge, which provides a large stylishisly-designed living room feel. Quality comfort-food with the best steaks and burgers in town are reasonable priced, and drinks are available from the well-stocked bar, which also serves as a check-in counter, 24/7.
The PlayerPad itself is spacious, comfy, and equipped with all the usual bells and whistles you’d expect from any contemporary hotel room: high-definition TV, super comfy double bed, en-suite bathroom with rain shower, and every woman’s favorite centrepiece—a full body mirror.
The TV is plonked dead-centre, facilitating easy viewing from the comfort of the bed, with the PS4 complementing the entertainment system underneath. This is the standard PS4, mind, not the new PS4 Slim, although we expect these will be equipped in rooms going forward.
There’s a fair few games on offer too, including the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, FIFA 16, Need for Speed, Just Dance, and LEGO The Movie – there are more are available at front desk. Okay, so it’s a bit mainstream for those with, shall we say, a more eclectic taste in games, but nonetheless still covers most bases nicely—although a solid action-adventure game like Uncharted wouldn’t go amiss.
Incidentally, pentahotels has been asking gamers which PS4 titles they’d like to play while stopping over, and plan to update their offerings with a wide selection of titles spanning multiple genres!
Flanking the PS4 is a charging station for two DualShock 4 pads, as well as a retro arcade machine packing Street Fighter EX 2. It’s free too. Also payTV with movies on demand, SKY Sports and BT Sports are available free of charge. We were informed that PS Vita’s are part of the package too, and room service will deliver pizzas and other tasty treats directly to your door with a quick phone call to the restaurant, 24/7.
From a gamer’s perspective, the addition of a PS4 to complement the usual hotel room entertainment package is a great bonus, and pentahotel is offering a great deal right now until the end of 2016.
