PES 2009 dated, UEFA Champions League mode revealed

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 will hit PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 on October 17, according to MCVUK.

Of course, no PES reveal would be complete without the odd jab in the direction of EA’s rival FIFA series, and PES team leader Jon Murphy doesn’t disappoint. “It is all very well for EA to say that FIFA is making great strides," he told MCVUK, "but general opinion suggests that they still have a long way to go before they can match the intuitive and absorbing gameplay of Pro Evolution Soccer.”

“That is not to say that we are resting on our laurels, though," Murphy went on. "PES 2009 has a vast number of new additions that elevate it far beyond anything anyone else is doing.”

What additions, you ask? Well how about a new fully licensed UEFA Champions League mode, plus licensing agreements with Manchester United and Liverpool? Add that to a graphical tune-up, AI improvements, revamped control and "key online enhancements", and you’re looking at one tasty game of two halves. Lionel Messi will be the game’s new cover star.

A PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable version are also in the works.
