The petition launched by PNP Games CEO Jade Pearce, which calls for Sony to reconsider its plans to stop producing physical game discs on PlayStation, has now passed 200,000 signatures.
The campaign attracted 40,000 signatures in 48 hours and was launched on the same day as Sony’s shock announcement, and Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad revealed that an additional 70,000 signatures were added to the petition in the last day, which is an impressive feat.
For those who haven’t already read about the petition, Pearce makes it clear that the campaign is “not against digital,” but rather “We are against digital beings the only option.” At the time of writing this article, the petition has amassed 212,612 signatures.
Sony later clarified in a message to developers that it will be possible to request disc versions of PlayStation games that were released prior to January 2028. Nonetheless, the decision has attracted heavy criticism, with companies including iam8bit voicing their disappointment over Sony’s plans to go digital-only, while Hideo Kojima has said that he’s “really sad” to hear about the news.
