The Daily Mail has reported that Amazon’s planned Tomb Raider TV series, which was set to be penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is no longer happening.
Rumours had persisted recently that Sophia Turner, who is best known for her roles in Game of Thrones, was set to portray Lara Croft, but a source has claimed “this is no longer going ahead.” Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke recently announced she was stepping down from the position, and was instrumental in getting Waller-Bridge involved with the company.

It seems that the writing has been on the wall for the Tomb Raider series for a while, as Waller-Bridge has yet to produce a script for the series, according to a report on ScreenRant.
Tomb Raider, which Waller-Bridge has been working on and which Salke was personally overseeing after announcing a series pickup last May, has now gone through two writers rooms and tens of millions of dollars in development costs.
Nothing official about the series’ cancellation has been announced yet, but if these reports are accurate we’ll probably hear something soon. As for Tomb Raider, the series celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, and we know that a brand new entry in the video game series is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics.
