Amazon has officially green lit the Tomb Raider series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the streaming giant has announced.
Waller-Bridge, who recently starred in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny alongside Harrison Ford, is serving as writer and executive producer on Tomb Raider. Speaking during its upfront presentation today in New York City, Jennifer Salke, chief of Amazon MGM Studios, commented:
Phoebe has a lifelong love affair with Lara Croft and as soon and very soon we’ll start the worldwide search for who will play this iconic role and I just can’t wait.

Waller-Bridge commented:
If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider’ has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.
While on the subject of Tomb Raider, the next chapter in the video game franchise is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics with Amazon Games also helping out, and is described as a ‘single-player, narrative-driven adventure game.’ A recent report claimed that Lara Croft’s next outing will be an open-world affair set in India.
