Popular Russian industry website GameMag claims to have information from a source currently working on a next-gen title that PlayStation 5 not only looks nothing like Xbox Series X in the flesh so to speak, but is almost twice as big as the current PlayStation 4 Pro console, too. Of course the usual sprinkling of salt should naturally apply here.
Spotted on ResetEra by user benzoipil, the source that GameMag has tapped claims the following:
- The PlayStation 5 final design doesn’t look like anything that has been leaked before
- PS5 has one unique detail, nobody talked about it because Sony most likely can track down the leaker if it actually leaks
- Sony didn’t unveil all the secrets of PS5, they should announce at least one software feature – “it was briefly talked about in Western press but nobody paid enough attention”
- Design-wise PS5 doesn’t look like Xbox Series X at all nor does it look like a smart speaker. It’s a traditional console: it’s a flat, square, symmetrical box with rounded edges
- At the same time PS5 is “very fat”, almost twice as fat as PS4 Pro
So, by this account then, it would seem that Sony’s PlayStation 5 will be something of a unit – and certainly one that might fellow existing form factors for console design.
As it is, Sony is set to unveil the first PlayStation 5 titles running on native hardware next week and while it seems unlikely that we’ll catch a glimpse at the hardware, one can hope.
