The developer responsible for bringing a number of PlayStation Classics to the PS5 has revealed during a roadmap for its Syrup Engine that the studio is looking at PS3 emulation for Sony’s latest home console.
For those out of the loop, Implicit Conversions works alongside Sony to bring a number of PSOne titles to the PS5 as part of the PlayStation Plus range, while its co-founder had also been responsible for the PS4’s PS2 emulation. Now, an update to the roadmap for the developer has revealed a “dreaming about” section which mentions “researching and prototyping the possibility of a PlayStation 3 emulation package.”

To back this up, Jeff Grubb has previously stated that Sony could be working on getting PS3 emulation up and running on PS5.
On the flip side, Sony’s preservation team revealed a few years back that the format holder is not currently focussing on PS3 emulation. Nonetheless, it’s probably fair to assume a lot of gamers are still hoping for the feature to one day see the light of day.
