Sony Corporation announced during its Investor Relations Day that its PlayStation business is currently the most profitable it has ever been.
As noted by Daniel Ahmad on Twitter, PlayStation is currently enjoying huge business following the release of the PS5, which Sony has said is likely to break even in June 2021 as far as the disc-based version of the console is concerned.
The PS5 launched in November 2020 in major markets including the US and Europe, and has sold over 7.8 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2021. The are currently two versions of the system available: the disc-based model and the Digital-Only Edition.
Sony’s next-generation powerhouse has suffered major stock issues since launch, and is still not readily available at retailers. However, the format holder is hopeful that these problems will start to ease later this year.
