PlayStation VR is pretty damn powerful, and it’s all thanks to PS4

PlayStation VR will benefit hugely as a result of it being directly linked to the PlayStation 4, Richard Marks, the head of PlayStation Magic Lab at Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), said at the recent AR/VR Vision Summit.

Speaking during a presentation at the event, Marks spoke at length on the power and speed that the virtual reality gaming headset will offer players when the device launches later this year. Unsurprisingly, it’s quite a beast, and it’s all down to the fact it’s tethered to the PS4.

Marks noted that some observers (that is, middleware providers, not Sony themselves) have found that Sony’s current-generation console is actually around 60 percent faster than a PC of equal specifications.

You can watch the presentation below. Note that it was actually held a while back, but has only just appeared online for the first time.

PlayStation VR is scheduled for release in the first half of 2016. Sony has confirmed that it will be hosting an event for the device at GDC 2016 in mid-March, where it is expected the format holder will finally slap a price on the headset.
