PlayStation VR has cropped up on a Czech website with a price point of just under $500.
Sony’s virtual reality gaming headset is listed at 11,990Kc, which converts to roughly $490. Obviously, this shouldn’t be taken as an official price, with Sony having yet to staple-gun a price point on the device.
Interestingly, the sub-$500 price point would give PlayStation VR at competitive edge against the likes of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, which retail for $800 and $600, respectively. Furthermore, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities reckons Sony could dominate the VR market if it costs less than $500.
Presumably we won’t have long to wait for an official price point however, as Sony has confirmed it will host a PlayStation VR-related event in mid-March. The format holder has previously said that it will be positioned at a similar cost to a new games console.
PlayStation VR was announced at GDC 2014 under the working title of Project Morpheus.
