The head of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has said that PlayStation VR, the upcoming virtual reality headset formally known as Project Morpheus, will be priced similarly to a new games console.
Speaking with Bloomberg, Andrew House would not divulge an exact figure, but commented the device “will be priced as a new gaming platform," indicating we could be paying up to £350 for the headset.
“VR rewrites the rule book on how you can create games,” House commented. “You’re seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it’s possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical.”
Elsewhere, House refused to comment on a possible PS4 price cut following Sony’s decision to lower the cost of its latest console in Asia.
PlayStation VR is scheduled for release in the first half of 2016.
