PlayStation and Sony Interactive have gone the route that plenty of other publishers have gone – instead of hosting massive showcases at in-person events where the whole industry gathers, we get pre-recorded videos that are livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch.
Some do both, sure, but PlayStation’s path of choice has been, and seems to continue to be, to avoid these in-person events and stick to more cost-effective livestreams.
Now a new report from German website Games Wirtschaft reports that Sony will be skipping Gamescom once again, as it has done the last few years.
“Sony Interactive currently has no plans to exhibit at Gamescom 2024,” is the statement given to Games Wirtschaft, which also notes it is a nearly identical statement to the one they got from Sony last year.
Even with PlayStation not being at Gamescom directly, there are almost always things PlayStation-related shown at Gamescom, like last year’s epic Tekken 8 showcase ahead of its January release this year.
So it’ll still be a show to keep an eye on – just don’t expect any major first-party PlayStation news.
