Erik Wolpaw, the award-winning writer for Valve Corporation’s Team Fortress, Portal and Portal 2, has spilled the beans on the changes players can expect to see in the relationship between Portal 2’s Chell and GLaDOS.
Chatting with the folks at Gamasutra, Wolpaw revealed one of the most obvious differences is that GLaDOS’ perception of main protagonist Chell has altered since the events of the first game, with the malicious AI now considering you a dangerous entity.
"Certainly, the relationship has changed since Portal," explained Wolpaw. "She does know that you’re dangerous. There’s certain stuff it would be spoilerish to talk about, but yeah, your relationship has changed."
Wolpaw went on to discuss how the sequel will continue to focus on the pair’s relationship, despite the fact we’ll be seeing a slew of fresh faces introduced over the course of the game.
"…despite being a game it told this intimate story about your relationship with this one other character. Even though we want to introduce a few new characters, we want to keep the core piece of the story as your relationship with GLaDOS, and how that’s changed by what you did in Portal, and then have some place to go as the events of Portal 2 unfold."
Among the new characters in the game includes a personality sphere named Wheatley, voiced by British comedian Stephen Merchant.
Portal 2 is pencilled in for release in February 2011 for PS3, PC and 360.
