Kepler_L2, a hardware insider with a reliable track record, has revealed in a post on X that the Bill of Materials (BoM) for the PS6, which remains unannounced by Sony, is around $200 lower than that of Magnus, which is the fancy term for the innards of Microsoft’s new Xbox hardware.
“PS6 BOM is approximately $200 lower than Magnus,” he writes. This basically means that Sony’s new system is cheaper to manufacture than Xbox Helix, which this week has rumoured to be launching in holiday 2028 and will cost as much as $1,800. Regardless of the final price, it’s generally considered that next-generation systems will not be affordable for the average consumer.
Last week, Kepler_L2 claimed that the memory components for the PS6 will cost Sony around $680 per console alone, so a price of around $1,000 for the final product is not out of the question. He had previously stated that the BoM of the PS6 had increased to $960. Aside from the PS6 itself, it has been heavily rumoured for some time now that Sony will launch the new console with a handheld companion, dubbed Canis, which according to Kepler will feature these specs.
Back in August, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki made it clear that the console maker has yet to decide on a release date for the PS6, and the fact the company is dropping game discs in January 2028 all but confirms PS6 won’t have a disc drive.
