Developer Arkane Studios’ revamp of Prey, the much-loved first-person shooter from 2006, is officially penned in for a release on May 5.
Unveiled at Bethesda’s showcase at E3 last year, the re-imagining of Prey is a curious case. Originally intended as a sequel, work began in earnest back in 2008 with developer Hammer Head Studios returning to the helm before a series of setbacks culminated in its cancellation (officially) in October of 2014.
Luckily for us, you can’t keep a good dog down and the project was reinvigorated with a different focus and under different tutelage. Either way, we’re just happy we get to see Prey once again.
Speaking on PlayStation’s U.S. Blog, Bethesda’s Community Manager Jennifer Finster had this to say:
”Prepare to fight for your life as Morgan Yu when Prey launches May 5 on PS4. You find yourself aboard Talos I, an immense space station, far from Earth. All hell has broken loose as the Typhon aliens have escaped containment and taken over the space station. You must fight your way through Talos I to defeat the Typhon threat by any means necessary.”
She added: ”Prey takes Arkane Studios’ mantra of “Play Your Own Way” to new heights by allowing for deep player customization through weapons and abilities. Morgan gains abilities via Neuromods — a device that allows you to implant powers directly into your brain… by jabbing needles through your eye. And while there are some human powers Morgan can install early on, the best abilities come directly from the Typhon. You just have to stay alive long enough to learn them!.”
