The ESRB has posted up a rating of the long-delayed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, suggesting that a release isn’t too far off.

This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a Persian prince on a quest to break a curse. From a third-person perspective, players traverse platform environments, sole puzzles, avoid traps (e.g., spike pits, wall-mounted blades and saws), and battle cursed soldiers and creatures made of sand. Players use swords and daggers to defeat enemies in melee-style combat.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been a long time coming, as it was originally announced in 2020 and scheduled to ship in March 2021. The game was subsequently delayed multiple times, and a report in 2024 claimed that the remake had been completely overhauled and Ubisoft Toronto later joined to support the title.
While Ubisoft hasn’t announced a concrete release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, a report from Insider-Gaming in November last year said that the game will launch in mid-January 2026. That’s not looking likely right now, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long either way.
The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released in 2003 for the PS2, PC, GameCube, and Xbox, and serves as a reboot of the franchise. Despite initial slow sales, the game went on to move over 14 million copies by April 2014, and is cited as one of the greatest video games ever made and the main reason for the franchise’s return to fame.
