Sony will show off Project Morpheus, the PS4 virtual reality headset, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 3, 2015.
In addition to a hands-on demo, Sony plans to reveal more about its plans for the headset, which was originally due to be released in 2014.
PlayStation head honcho, Shuhei Yoshida recently spoke with Polygon about the delay.
“We have a good system," he said. "People enjoy the Morpheus demo, but it’s not enough. It’s coming close, but there isn’t enough in terms of creating real experiences with a sense of presence.
"You really need to be able to feel that you are standing on the edge of a cliff. Tech-wise, there are a few things we want to include to really nail it from a hardware and system software standpoint."
Project Morpheus is a head-mounted VR display unit that renders images in 1080p with a 90-degree field of view. The headset accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time. A release date has yet to be announced.
