PS3 holiday sales increase 130%

So much for that anomaly that was November 2008. While the PlayStation 3 may have seen a decline in sales in November, it appears as though December was an entirely different story. According to Ian Jackson and internal sales data, the PlayStation 3 saw a 130% increase in sales over the holiday season (starting the day after Black Friday).

"Early internal data points to an increase of more than 130 percent of PS3 hardware sales for the holiday season–since Black Friday–and we’re also seeing a growth of nearly 40 percent in total PS3 hardware sales for the calendar year," states SCEA sales exec, Ian Jackson.

This positive news comes on the heels of Microsoft declaring their feat of reaching 28 million consoles world wide. For those of you wondering where Sony ranks in it all, PlayStation 3 must ship four million total units from October to December 31 in order to match Microsoft’s year-to-date sales — something that isn’t completely out of the questions with this recent announcement.
